MOGADISHU- Today, the Somali Disability Empowerment Network (SODEN) proudly celebrates the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year, we join the global community in recognizing the strength, resilience, and rights of individuals with disabilities under the theme:

“Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”

This theme inspires us to acknowledge and support the vital contributions of persons with disabilities in building a more equitable and sustainable world.

Highlights from the Event

The event, organized by SODEN, brought together a wide array of participants, including government officials, civil society organizations, and members of the disability community, to emphasize the importance of inclusion, accessibility, and equality for all.

Mohamed Abdisalam, Chairperson of SODEN, delivered a powerful speech:

“Today is an important day for people with disabilities. It is a day to come together and celebrate while addressing the challenges faced by persons with disabilities. We are human like everyone else and deserve the same rights as others.”

His words resonated with attendees, reaffirming the need for unity in tackling discrimination and advocating for equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
